Pennies for the Homeless is the brainchild of businessman Joseph Saavedra and the late District Court Judge Diane dal Santo who together in 1993 started a “community penny drive” collaborating with APS students to collect loose change to help the homeless.
For the last 23 years, Pennies for the Homeless has devoted its energy to passionately advocate for the hungry and underprivileged members of our global family. Find out how you can contribute to the future of the homeless through donations of money and/or time.
Pennies for the Homeless was a 2018 Recipient of the Albuquerque Community Foundation's Great Grant Giveaway! Go to their website if you wish to donate or you can donate here as well!
Let’s put an end to poverty in our community
Pennies for the Homeless is composed of an all volunteer seven-member board who work with founder Joseph Saavedra to determine which charities receive the funds that Pennies for the Homeless raises through various local events, such as the Annual High Tea and Fashion Show, which the board works to organize and execute.
Your donations go towards supporting charitable organizations throughout New Mexico and pay out a rich dividend in the day-to-day lives of our neediest fellow citizens. Join us in our endeavor to one day end the epidemic that touches so many of our own.
Hunger isn't seasonal, and millions of homeless people suffer on a daily basis. Sadly many of them suffer right here, on our very own streets. Extend a helping hand and join us in our battle to end this epidemic.
Work with members in your community and make a difference
Thanks to all of you for your continued interest in and concern for Albuquerque’s homeless population!
Due to a number of factors, all of which are beyond anyone’s control, it is necessary that we cancel this year’s High Tea and Fashion Show.
With your continued love and support we will be back bigger and better for our 20th annual event November of 2018.
Pennies for the Homeless
The goal of Pennies for the Homeless since inception in 1993 has been to improve the quality of life for the homeless around us through community outreach and funding to programs that provide food, shelter, healthcare and the hope for a better future.
